The City of South Padre Island held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, March 2 for three Beach and Dune Walkover Projects.

Beach Walkovers Ocean Circle, Moonlight Circle and Seaside Circle were part of the Coastal Management Program Grant that has been completed. The walkovers are now open to the public. Each walkover has been built with stronger, more durable materials and constructed with respect to the surrounding dune systems.

The new walkovers will provide better accessibility to the beach and include more parking spaces, water fountains and bike racks. The height of the walkovers allows sand dunes to naturally grow, without being blocked by the structures.

  1. The Island just gets more beautiful every day. The City has done a lot of beautiful improvements, colorful Island Logos on new sidewalks on Gulf Blvd and Padre Blvd, and pretty colorful brick patterned crosswalks. Not to mention the gorgeous $6 million Turtle Inc facility that opened a few weeks ago! I love my little 4 stop light Island. Texas Week Spring Breakers will be flocking here this week by the 1000s and it’s just crazy but I love watching the kids having my so much fun! We were too poor for me to ever go on Spring Break so I guess it is my way of reliving my youth. Go UT! Zoe & I are enjoying our lunch on Island time!! Who cares! 💋😘🐾
